Wednesday Fasting: We were challenged on Monday to examine our own hearts when it comes to how we view ourselves in relation to those around us. We were also encouraged; we learned that the Gospel is a universal call, that it knows know social, racial, economic or ethnic barriers. This morning, I want us to consider the curtain that was torn. It is true that “the dividing wall of hostility” separated the Jewish people from the rest of the world, but the curtain separated the world from God. Jesus, by his death and resurrection, removed this barrier between humanity and God, and he promises that if we “confess with [our] mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in [our] hearts that God raised him from the dead, [we] will be saved” (Rom. 10:9). I want us to consider those we know who are far from God, those who have chosen to believe in lies rather than the truth of the Gospel. You may even be thinking of someone in particular as you read these words. Spend some time fasting and praying for these people today, that they would come to know Jesus! If you can’t fast for the entire day, skip a meal and spend that time praying. If you find that you are unable to skip a meal because of health reasons, then put down the remote control, shut off the TV and pray.
