The human race has been haunted by the instinct that the natural world is not all there as. Whether an obsession with angelic or demonic beings, we cannot seem to shake the reality that there are spiritual forces at work in the universe. Influential literary critic and Christian thinker CS Lewis remarked in his book “The Screwtape Letters” something very profound about our thinking about darker spiritual forces in our world:
There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.
For three weeks this spring we will focus on the supernatural world of Angels and Demons – what are they and how do they affect our lives. We neither want to focus obsessively on “the supernatural” nor live as practical materialists denying the reality of the unseen world. Join us during the month of April as we look at both Angels and Demons – what they are, what they are not, what they can do and how we understand their role in God’s creation.
