Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. The story of Jesus did not begin in a manger 2000 years ago. The world had been yearning for the arrival of its Savior for millennia. The Savior’s arrival had been foretold in many ways as God consistently spoke hope into the seemingly hopeless story of humanity’s rebellion. As the Gospel writers recount the coming of Jesus, they show how Jesus fulfills the expectations of the ages in various ways. In this series, we will focus on Matthew’s narration of the Christmas story. Each week we will consider a passage in which Jesus is said to fulfill a particular promise of the Old Testament. As we do so, we will gain a greater understanding of Jesus the Savior and the centrality of his role in the story of the world and of our own lives.
