• Why do you think God chose to announce the arrival of Israel’s Messiah to a band of shepherds? How does God’s surprising choice of society’s outcasts challenge the messages you’ve received about what’s significant or important?
• Consider the many descriptions of Jesus’ identity and mission throughout these chapters. Which do you find most compelling and/or comforting and why? How might these address the hard emotions (anxiety, sadness, despair, etc.) you’re feeling right now?

CHALLENGE:

• Why do you think Mary was able to be brave (ie - “live out her true self”) in spite of her circumstances and the responsibility laid on her by the angel? What can we learn from her example?
• Discuss your Rule of Life and how you’re progressing in your chosen areas of focus.
