Discipleship Guide & Reflection Questions

Launching Questions

  • Reread the text from Sunday (Luke 18:1-14). What do you remember most from the teaching on Sunday?
  • If someone asked you to define prayer, what would you say? If someone only looked at your practice of prayer, how might that definition change? Why do you think that difference exists?

Encourage

  • Reflect on the practice we did during the gathering this Sunday. What did you put under each heading and what did you learn by doing that? As a reminder the headings were:
  • Adoration (reminding ourselves who God is);
  • Thanksgiving (expressing specific gratitude to the Giver of all good gifts);
  • Repentance (seeking forgiveness and cleansing from our Gracious Redeemer);
  • Intimacy (reflecting on our inner lives and sharing openly with our Good Father);
  • Petition (seeking the intervention and provision of our Great Provider).

Challenge

  • Discuss how you might incorporate prayer more into the rhythms of your life. Encourage one another and give practical counsel on how (and why!) you could make this happen. Finish with an extended time of prayer together. Maybe pray aloud through the exercise above.
