Dave Lawrence is one of our liturgy leaders and an accomplished song writer. Below is a lament he composed. Oftentimes as we travel through this world, we experience significant pain and distress. We feel as though God is absent, that he has forsaken us and no longer loves us. But the truth is that God is with us, even when we're at our lowest and most hopeless. This is his promise, "I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people" (Lev. 26:12). In this we can rejoice, even in the midst of sorrow and pain.
How long must I wander
These roads and these paths
Looking for your face
But feeling only your wrath
How long must I suffer
How long must I wait
How long must I be alone with my pain
Doubt leads to fear as lies lead to ruin
They're addicting to my soul like drugs I can't stop using
How long oh lord, how long till I die
How long must I be seen as no good In your eyes
I'm empty, I'm shallow
I'm hungry, I'm spent,
My life's a disaster
What's good came and went
