Genesis 2:1-3: The Sabbath Rest of God

Speaker: Tyler Stowell Series: Alpha and Omega: Genesis 1-3, Revelation 20-22 Topic: Exposition Passage: Genesis 2:1–3

Daily Office

Read Romans 8:31-39 each day

Meditate on this passage this week and consider one of the following questions each day

Day 1: Consider the logic of v. 31-32. What are you doubting God will provide you in this season? Pray for either the strength to endure apart from that provision and/or faith to wait on God’s timing.

Day 2: Consider the truths of vv. 32-33. How do these realities empower you for the kind of courageous confession/repentance we discussed at the last Discipleship Course session?

Day 3: Consider v. 34. What does it specifically mean to you that Jesus is literally interceding on your behalf right now?

Day 4: Reread vv. 35-39. What most often causes you to feel separated from the love of God?

Day 5: Read this entire passage and choose a single word or phrase that freshly stands out to you. Consider why that word or phrase is making an impact on you today.

Discipleship Group Questions

  • Read Genesis 2.1-3 together. Do you resonate with the idea that we too often view rest as circumstantial (ie- once I’m done with my checklist, then rest will come)? What would it look like for you to more fully embrace God’s invitation to rest in spite of circumstances? Get practical about pursuing a practice of daily office and/or weekly Sabbath. Share your experiences with these rhythms.
  • For those involved in D Course, have you yet shared your story as we were encouraged to last session? If so, what was that experience like for you? If not, might now be the time to share?
