Growing in Knowledge

• Discuss the imagery found in 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17. Cry of command, voice of an archangel, trumpet of God, the clouds, “meeting” the Lord. What does this signify?
• If we find the resurrection of the dead, the coming of Jesus, the entire church with Jesus in victorious glory, always being with the Lord, as contemporaneous events...what conclusions can we draw about this time? What else follows after this time? Cross reference with a reading of 1 Corinthians 15.

Feeling Life Deeply

• What sort of teaching have you been exposed to in the past regarding the “end times” or “end of the world”? Through media, books, church teachings?
• Did this provoke in you fear? Joy? Conspiracy feelings? Hope? Why?

Living with Courage

• Paul sets his discussion of death, resurrection and the second advent in the context of community, holiness, and indirectly, judgment. How should this affect the way we live now?
• Likewise Read Titus 2:11-14 and discuss the relationship between the “blessed hope” of the second coming and our  life and mission now?
