DISCIPLESHIP GROUP QUESTIONS
EQUIP
- Since this is most likely your first time meeting as a discipleship group, begin by sharing each of your stories. If you’re a Christian, explain how you came to follow Jesus. If not, explain where you’re at today with issues of faith.
- Read aloud the text from Sunday (John 13:1-17). Consider taking three verses each until you’re finished. What do you remember most from the teaching on Sunday? Discuss what stood out to you as you read through the passage this time.
ENCOURAGE
- Have you ever felt unworthy of God’s love? Have you ever felt that His love is simply unnecessary or ineffective in your life? Share some of the circumstances that have caused or are causing you to feel this way. Pray for these things and that Jesus would meet you, as he did Peter in this passage.
CHALLENGE
- On Sunday we discussed our core identity of Joy and Generosity in Mission by highlighting Jesus’ call to “find analogies to the footwashing in our own lives” (you may recall the analogy of jazz music). Where do you see opportunities in your own life to “make tangible the spiritual reality of the cross” by embracing this challenge?
- In what ways and in what areas of your life do you struggle to serve wholeheartedly (with money or time, among family, at your job)? Give advice on how each person might overcome those obstacles and then pray for them.
