Launching questions
- Really take some time to read and reflect upon Sunday’s passage (Isaiah 52:13-53:12) together. Read the passage aloud, then pause and discuss what stood out to you this time through. Don’t rush this part of your time. Here we have one of the richest passages in all of Scripture. Let it speak to you afresh together. What do these verses show you about God? Jesus? Humanity and/or yourself?
Encourage
- Do you know what it means to say that “Jesus died for me”? If not, see if you can help one another grasp this idea. As part of your discussion, watch the Bible Project’s video on “Atonement” (simply type “Bible Project Atonement” into any search engine).
- Once you’ve done that, discuss how this might go from an “idea” to something you feel and experience deeply. Has this happened for any of you? Share those experiences.
Challenge
- On Sunday we said that the New Testament often applies this Servant Song to the people of God (and not only to Jesus Himself). Look over the passage again, reading it as encouragement and challenge for your own life … what might it look like for you to embrace this encouragement and challenge in your various relationships and spheres of influence. Be specific and practical in your application, then pray for God’s help in being faithful to these things.
