Discipleship Guide & Reflection Questions

Launching Questions

  • When you think of greatness what traits and/or individuals come to mind? Where do you think your definition of greatness primarily comes from (family of origin, specific aspects of culture, society, etc)? Be honest and specific.
  • If someone were to ask you, “What makes Jesus so great?” How would you respond?

Encourage

  • In what ways do you see evidence of servant-heartedness and childlikeness in one another? Get practical about where you see the unique call of Jesus being responded to in each other’s lives. Remember: the more specific our encouragement is, the more powerful it will be.
  • Reread the passage from Sunday. What deeper significance is added to Jesus’ words given that he said this to his disciples the night before he was crucified?

Challenge

  • Think of how you spent your time, energy and resources this past week. What forms of greatness did you pursue in the various areas of your life this week? Share what’s good, bad and ugly in your assessment. Then repent together before God and ask for his help in following the words of Jesus this coming week “But not so with you …”
